Metal magic

BISBEE — Over on Subway Street in Old Bisbee is an artist-run studio that sells unique art made of a mixture of metal, paint, other objects and … a little magic.

Brenna Curry describes her work as “raw source material from an organic nature.”

I use metal, and there’s water and the sun,” she said. “The images themselves are kind of abstract, I guess.”

Some, for example, depict pictures of Earth from space or pictures of space from Earth.

The process to make a piece of her artwork starts with a sheet of stainless steel. She works outdoors, and puts paint and water on the metal. The sun evaporates the water, leaving an image. Factors such as temperature, humidity, wind and the time of day play a major role.

I can control it with color choice and how much color, but I let the water and the metal create it,” she added. “It’s magic.”
