Vet journeys to National WWII Memorial
It was early 1945.
Two days into the New Year, James Sullivan found himself engaged in the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler’s last attempt to stop Western allies from being one of the pincers in defeating Nazi Germany, as Soviet forces in the East continued closing their part of the trap.
Assigned to a 2nd Infantry anti-tank unit, which had 55 mm cannons, the 88-year-old Sullivan said “We actually destroyed more German tanks with bazookas than our cannons.”
The unit was part of Gen. George Patton’s Third Army.

I was a escort or volunteer for Honor Flights in November this past year and it was a great time and honor for all the volunteers helping these great veterans.
From the time we took off in Tucson with a Southwest Airlines Water Cannonade and Air Force Unit Farwell to the landing in Baltimore where Air Force and Navy Servicemembers greeted us the WWII were treated to a hero’s welcome. We had a brief layover in Denver where the whole terminal stood up and cheered these Men and Women, the two Vets I was in charge of were overwhelmed and felt they didn’t deserve all the attention. Anyone can helpout please call look up Honor Flights
Mr Sullivan I’m glad you had a great trip I hope to do it again next fall.
